About Rebecca
Uwakwe, Esq.

Rebecca Uwakwe is a nationally recognized speaker, author of The Black Advocate, and a powerful storyteller who equips the next generation with the tools to navigate the professional world with confidence. Rebecca currently serves as Director of Criminal Law Reform Advocacy at the ACLU of New Jersey, where she has led major statewide initiatives addressing injustices in the criminal legal system. Before this role, she spent a decade as a trial attorney, gaining firsthand insight into how systems and institutions operate.

As a first-generation attorney, Rebecca understands how intimidating traditional institutions and professional spaces can feel when no one teaches you the rules. Through honest storytelling, practical guidance, and lessons learned throughout her journey—from the classroom to leadership—Rebecca helps students and young professionals understand the unwritten rules of professional success.
